Why solid European oak
- Lifespan. 18mm solid boards can be sanded and refinished several times.
- Consistency. Prime grade oak has even colour and minimal knots – ideal for pattern floors.
- Versatility. Oak takes oils, stains, lime-wash and fumed/smoked finishes beautifully.
- Provenance. European oak is grown in managed forests. Ask us about documentation for your project – see timber legality.

Frequently asked questions
Is solid oak better than engineered oak?
Neither is better in every case. Solid oak can be sanded more times and is a single natural material; engineered oak is more dimensionally stable and is often preferred over underfloor heating. See solid vs engineered oak.
How long does a solid oak floor last?
With sensible care and periodic re-coating, solid oak floors routinely last for generations – many European parquet floors are well over a century old. See oak floor care.
Is oak hard enough for Australian homes?
European oak has a Janka hardness of roughly 5–6 kN, similar to Tasmanian oak and softer than spotted gum. It suits homes with pets and children when finished well – see the Janka hardness chart.
